Hi,
Could some one clearly explain what 'i' stands for in 8i, 9i etc., They say it is intermediate. And also please list the versions of the oracle server identified by 8i, 9i.

For. e.g 8i = 8.1.5, 8.16, 8.1.7 and so on.

If so what are 8.0.x versions called?

I thought the 'i' stood for Internet. When Oracle8i rel 1 came out, it was the begining of Internet Era and Dot Coms.

8i
8.1.5 (8i rel 1)
8.1.6 (8i rel 2)
8.1.7 (8i rel 3)

9i
9.0.1 (9i rel 1)
9.2.0 (9i rel 2) -> This is the latest and the greatest.

8.0.x are the plain release of Oracle8. The reason they said Oracle8i rel 1 = 8.1.5 was becoz 8.0.5 was the highest version in that category and 1 above that was 8.1.5. Anyhow they later released 8.0.6 (last in that series) which was in fact after the release of 8.1.5.

Cheers.
