Friends,

Somebody has some material, or knows some site with material, about a comparison between Database and Flat File?

The case is that we are choosing a system of Image/Text Manager and have between the options systems with Database (Oracle) and systems with Flat File (image/text are in directories and are searched through a Search Enginee). The doubt comes of the following one: they think about a Periodical where the publications have that to be stored during 10 years (example)... how it would be this research in a data base? If I to want to look to all the substances that contain the word "United States"? IS clause SQL will be with "Like" or exists another form? This would be slow excessively!

But sites as Google and Altavista use Flat File ... is this because the performance?

Thanks!!!

You mentioned Google as using flat files... I think they actually use pigeons:

You take a look at Oracle InterMedia option. There is much more than using flat files.

There is also product called - Documentum. It's designed to manage such content.

Hope that helps,
