ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel [message #57939]

Can any one help me to solve the above problem,
while opening the database i am getting this error "ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel"

what could be the reason and how to overcome this...?

If it is on WindowsNT/2000 it may be that the Oracle service is not running when startup the database.

Mr.Werner,

My oracle is running (8.1.7) under windows2000, after starting the oracle service, when i am trying to startup the database, it is going through upto database mounted state, but when it trying to open the database, it gives the ora-03113 error..can u help me what could be the reason...?

when i am trying to start the instance, it is going upto database mounted state...but it is not able to open the database...can u pl help?

Check your alert log file. The reasons for "ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel" will be listed there.

If you are on UNIX - check your kerner Oracle's parameters settings.
