During an upgrade to apply 8.1.7.4 to an Oracle 8.1.7.0 database I received two errors during the linking phase.

ins_cman.mk and ins_names.mk gave an error like the following (taken from the make.log):-

make: *** No rule to make target `/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7/network/lib/s0nncc.o', needed by `namesctl'. Stop.

Having looked at the .mk files it would appear that they produce a ‘Connection Manager’ and ‘namesctl’ repectively.

What are the consequences of these executables being left at 8.1.7.0 ?

If I manage to find the missing library, how do I relink them ?
